Max’s is a Penfolds range launched in 2016 in honour of Max Schubert, the winery’s first Chief Winemaker (1948-1975). The line is meant to be expressive, polished, and modern — drawing on cool-climate vineyard sources, sensitive oak handling, and winemaking techniques (lees, barrel work) that emphasise both fruit purity and complexity. Max’s Chardonnay continues Penfolds’ evolution in white wines, reflecting both heritage and experimentation.

Light straw colour with green-tinged rim. Aromas of white peach, nectarine, honeydew melon, lemon-lime curd, and nougat; subtle floral lifts of jasmine and white rose, plus a rock-flint minerality. On the palate it’s creamy (lees influence), with stone fruits, cashew/nougat, delicate oak toast, crisp natural acidity, and a lingering mineral-touched finish.
