The Hanyu Distillery in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, was founded in 1941 by the Akuto family, originally sake makers dating back to the 17th century. Although the distillery ceased operations in 2000, the remaining stock of single malt was bottled by Ichiro Akuto under the Ichiro’s Malt label, creating the legendary Playing Card Series. Each release carries a playing card design, making them icons of Japanese whisky collecting. The Jack of Spades Card is one of these exceedingly rare expressions, finished in new wood (virgin oak) for added bold character.
