St Henri is one of Penfolds’ signature single‑varietal expressions, first commercially released in 1957. It is crafted as a counterpoint to the more heavily oaked and intense style of Grange — St Henri uses no new oak, instead leaning on large, old seasoned vats or large format seasoned oak vats that impart subtle oak character without overwhelming the fruit. The fruit is drawn from multiple premium South Australian regions including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Wrattonbully and The Peninsulas. The wine is matured for about 12 to 18 months in these large vats before release, allowing the varietal Shiraz expression to shine with purity, elegance, and aging potential.

Taste Profile
BrightBalancedBold
Deep purple‑ruby colour. Aromas of blackberry, mulberry, and dark plum with undercurrents of licorice, tar, smoke‑tinged earth, and a hint of violets. On the palate it’s rich and dense, with brooding dark fruit, graphite‑like minerality, roasted walnut and dark chocolate. Fine‑grained and silky tannins lead into a long, lingering finish that features dark cherry, cedar and soft spice.
