Penfolds introduced the Max’s tier in 2016 in honour of Max Schubert (1869-1975), their first Chief Winemaker, a pioneer in Australian winemaking. The Max’s range reflects his spirit — experimenting, striving for flavour purity, sourcing from regions best suited to each variety and delivering wines that are polished, expressive and accessible from release.

Bright cherry and strawberry aromas with hints of maraschino cherry, baking spice and pink peppercorn; savoury tones of caper-brine and gentle char from French oak in the background. On the palate there’s juicy red fruits, chalky tannins, lively acidity and a fine texture that supports flavour through the finish.
