Founded by Suntory in 1973, the Hakushu Distillery sits deep within the forests of the Japanese Alps and is renowned for producing fresh, lightly peated whiskies with exceptional purity. The Hakushu 1981 Kioke Shikomi was distilled during the year the distillery expanded its production facilities and represents one of Suntory’s rare experimental releases. “Kioke Shikomi” translates to “matured in wooden tubs,” referencing traditional wooden fermentation methods that contribute added complexity and character. Bottled in 2005 after 24 years of maturation, this discontinued release has become highly sought after among collectors and Japanese whisky enthusiasts
