Karuizawa Distillery was a legendary Japanese whisky producer founded in 1955 in Nagano Prefecture, notable for its high‑quality malt whisky matured predominantly in sherry casks. Due to commercial pressures, production ceased in 2000 and the distillery was ultimately dismantled in 2011, which has driven original bottlings, including the 12 Year Old, to cult status among whisky collectors worldwide. Remaining stocks are now scarce and highly sought after in auctions and private sales.
