Devil's Corner Pinot Noir

Winery Background

Devil’s Corner is a Tasmanian winery situated on the island’s rugged East Coast, near the Freycinet Peninsula. Established in 1999, the winery is renowned for producing premium cool-climate wines, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The name "Devil’s Corner" reflects the challenging yet rewarding environment in which the vineyards are located. Winemaker Tom Wallace leads the production, focusing on harnessing the unique terroir to create wines that are both expressive and elegant.

Product Description

Devil’s Corner Pinot Noir is crafted from fruit sourced primarily from the East Coast and Tamar Valley regions of Tasmania. The 2023 vintage experienced a cool growing season with low yields, resulting in high-quality fruit. The grapes were harvested at moderate potential alcohol levels, ensuring full flavor and ripeness. The winemaking process involved early picking to preserve freshness, with limited cold soaking and whole berry fermentation techniques to gently extract color and tannins.

Tasting Note

  • Nose: The aroma is vibrant and inviting, featuring notes of ripe red berries such as cherry and raspberry, complemented by subtle hints of spice and earthiness.
  • Palate: On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a smooth texture. Flavors of red fruit dominate, with layers of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry. The palate is further enhanced by nuances of oak, vanilla, and chocolate, adding depth and complexity.
  • Finish: The finish is clean and lingering, with soft tannins and a refreshing acidity that balances the fruit-forward profile.
