Yamazakura Asaka "The First" Japanese Single Malt
Launched in December 2019, this is the first release from the Asaka Distillery which is owned by Sasanokawa Shuzo. Established in 2015 with the first distillation in 2016, the Asaka Distillery sits on the site where several casks of Hanyu were temporarily stored by Ichiro Akuto san (with the help of Sasanokawa Shuzo at the start of Ichiro san's famous whisky journey).
TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Pale straw colored.
Nose: Oak, wax, citrus, honey, ginger, a bit simple.
Palate: Lemon cream, vanilla, ginger, heather honey. Sweet and simple.
Finish: Honey and pepper.
With Water: Softer, sweeter, fruitier.
Overall: Quite sweet and tasty but very simple overall. Seems to be bourbon barrels. Somehow reminds me of an all-malt Cutty Sark.
