Distillery Background
Founded in 1950 by Don Alfonso Jiménez Rosales, a co-founder of Herradura who split off, El Caballito Cerrero is produced at the historic Santa Rita brewery (est. 1873) in Amatitán, Jalisco. The family—now 15th-generation agave distillers—chose to designate their product as “Destilado de Agave” rather than tequila, in rebellion to industrial regulation and in respect to traditional Amatitán-valley agave traditions.
