Penfolds 65F by NIGO is the fourth—and final—collaboration between Penfolds and the Japanese creative designer NIGO. It pays tribute to the iconic 65‑foot tall chimney that has stood over the Magill Estate Winery for nearly a century. NIGO drew on archival Penfolds materials to influence the packaging and design—pressed labels from the 1930s‑50s, retro tissue wrap, a chalkboard wine tag with chalk pencil, and a “chimney smoke” wine stopper. The wine inside reflects Penfolds House style, sourced from top vineyards across South Australia, and embraces regional assemblage, block selection, and French oak barrique maturation.

Tasting Notes

Dense, dark core colour with garnet edges. On the nose: expressive French oak, nutmeg, cardamom, cassis, caraway seeds, blueberry compote, black fig, pomegranate molasses, and a delicate balsamic glaze. The palate is compact and mouth‑watering, with fine‑grain, powdery tannins. Flavours of blueberry soufflé, crème anglaise spiked with demerara sugar, balanced by notes of freshly sliced jamón, fennel, and crostini. The wine is tightly coiled now but shows excellent harmony and great potential for ageing.
