Penfolds is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected fortified wine producers, founded in Adelaide in 1844. The Great Grandfather Rare Tawny was introduced in 1994 to mark Penfolds’ 150th anniversary. It is part of the Penfolds “Fortified” range and uses material from their Grandfather Solera system, with additional maturing in oak before blending into the Great Grandfather Solera.

Deep tawny-amber colour with a green-edge. Aromas of toasted almonds, roasted chestnuts, quince paste, fig, raisin and candied peel. Rich layers of toffee/praline, dark fruitcake, and milk & dark chocolate interplay with coffee, vanillin oak and aniseed. The palate is luxurious, seamless and very long; acid and spirit balance support a persistent finish with hints of zesty citrus peel and subtle rancio wood spice.
