Blend No. 21 Margarete's Shiraz 6L

Pitch black core with a bright dark red black hue. Pronounced liquorice, dark choc mint and ripe blackberry aromas marry into toasty vanillin oak and spice notes. The rich palate is filled with plushly textured dark plum and liquorice fruit which melds into some prominent toasty vanillin oak, subtle choc mint and spice. Velvet smooth tannins. Concludes with a medium to long aftertaste that’s laced with a fair dose of toasty vanillin oak.
Cellar 5-6 years.

Meld of French (83%) and American (17%) oak serves this wine well, with the coconut roughie nature of the former shaping this generous style of shiraz, while conferring hints of rum and raisin to the phalanx of berry fruit flavours. The grating finish, however, gives me reason to pause.
